Hyderabad is the capital of Andhra Pradesh. The name itself
brings up vision of a vibrant city of minarets and modern high - rise buildings.
A natural and sophisticated blend of old and new - an old 'Nawabi' culture with

in the midst of which stands the 400-year-old Charminar, the modern shopping complexes

Seeing Asman
Garh Palace: It was designed and built by Sir Osman Jah,
a noble belonging to the Paigah family and one time Prime Minister of Hyderabad
State. The granite turrets and arched windows of Asman Garh stand atop a hill
some distance ahead of the Hyderabad TV tower.
Charminar:

is as much the signature of Hyderabad as the Taj Mahal is of Agra or the Eiffel
Tower is of Paris. charminar is a magnificent square edifice of granite, built
upon four grand arches facing North, South, East and West. These arches support
two floors of rooms and gallery of archways. At each corner of the square structure
is a minaret rising to a height of 24 meters, making the building nearly 54 meters
tall. It is these four (char) minarets (minar) that give the building, its name
Charminar. | Falaknuma
Palace: It is situated in Falaknuma, about 4 km South of
Charminar. It stands on a hill overlooking the city of Hyderabad. It is a magnificent
palace. "The edifice had the same importance in Hyderabad in the near past
as the Palace of Kremlin had in Moscow" says Dharmendra prasad. Falaknuma
served as the royal guest house for the rulers of Hyderabad, King George and Queen
Mary, king Edward-VIII, then Prince of Wale. Falaknuma palace is a masterpiece
designed by an Italian architect. The marble used was specially imported from
Italy. Golconda Fort:

is one of the famous forts of India. The name originates from the Telugu words
"Golla Konda" meaning "Shepherd's Hill". The origins of the
fort can be traced back to the Kakatiyas period Golconda was originally a mud
fort, which passed to the Bahmani dynasty and later to the Qutab Shahis, who held
it from 1518 to 1687 A.D. The first three Qutab Shahi kings rebuilt Golconda,
over a span of 62 years. | Sound
& Light Show at Golconda Fort: The glorious past of Golconda
Fort is narrated effectively with matchless Sound and Light effects. The unique
Sound & Light Show takes you right back in time, when Golconda was full of
life, glory and grandeur. The Statue of Lord
Buddha: The Buddha statue has been placed on the rock of Gibraltar
in the placid waters of the Hussain Sagar. It is the tallest standing monolith
of 72 feet, erected as a part of the Buddha Poornima project in 1985. The monolithic
statue was chiselled out of a white granite rock, weighting 450 tons.It was carved
by 200 sculptors for two years. The statue was transported to Hyderabad in November
1988.After the intial problems, the statue was erected on 12th April 1992 on a
pedestral. Attached to it , Lumbini park was inaugurated with musical fountains,
Bonsai Plants and a boat ride from Lumbini Park to the Buddha Statue. The whole
atmosphere reflects peace and persevence. A visit to Buddha statue by boat is
a memorable experience. |||
