About India: 3,287,263 sq km is the area covered by India, which includes the world's most dramatic landscapes, from the soaring peaks of the mighty Himalaya to the pancake - flat salt plains of Gujarat's Little Rann. Running from Southeast to Northeast, one of the youngest mountain ranges that separate India from China, are the great Himalayas. Himalayas is a series of ranges with valleys wedged between them. West Bengal's Khangchendzonga is India's highest mountain. In Contrast to these towering and record breaking mountains, the northern plain is flat and slopes so gradually that as it stretches east from Delhi to the Bay of Bengal it only drops a total of 200m. The Northeast boundary of India is defined by the foothills of Himalaya, separating it from Myanmar (Burma) and here India bends around Bangladesh, nearly meeting the sea on its eastern side. Moving south of the northern plains, the land rises up into the high plateau of the Deccan. On the western side, India is separated from Pakistan by three distinct regions - Kashmir formed by Himalayas, these then drop down to the plains of Punjab, finally, the state of Gujarat is separated from Sindh (Pakistan) by an unusual marshland - the Rann of Kutch.
